With boys and girls track season hitting its mid-season stride there were two quad matches locally on Thursday with some fine performances turned in by local athletes.

Hermantown hosted a four team event with Ashland, Duluth Marshall, Cloquet and Hermantown participating. The host Hawks ran away with the meet on the girls side by scoring a total of 136 points to runners-up Cloquet’s 72 points. Ashland was third with 34 points and Duluth Marshall finished up with 14 points.

Rachael Hoium led the Hawks with first place finishes in three events. Hoium won the 100 meter hurdles as well as the long and triple jumps. She rounded out a good days work with a third place finish in the 200 meter dash.

The boys side was much more competitive with Ashland winning the event over the Hermantown boys, scoring 92.5 points to the Hawks 74. Cloquet was a close third with 63 points, and Duluth Marshall rounded things out by scoring 19.5 points on the day.

Hermantown highlights from the event were Jeremy Peterson winning both the discus and shot-put events while teammate Corey Anderson won the high jump and finished second in both the long and triple jumps.

Cloquet got outstanding performances from Brad Butcher and Dylan Marvel, who respectively won the 100 and 400 meter dash while the Jacks also finished first in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

Duluth Denfeld also hosted a quad meet on Thursday with Duluth Denfeld, Duluth East, Proctor, and Superior participating.

The host Hunters won the boys event with 85.5 points followed by Superior with 73.5, Proctor 52.5, and East with 44.5

Proctor distance runners continued to set the pace with Romeo Benish winning the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:38.6

Duluth East won the girls event with 98 points. Just a half of a point separated second and third place with Superior edging out Proctor 58 to 57.5 points. Denfeld was fourth with 42.5 points.

The close finish for the Rails was a testament to depth and overall hard work with the Rails winning just two events. Bridget Tesser won the high jump and the Rails won the 4×100 meter relays.
