Hermantown Boys Remain Unbeaten With 3-1 Win

The Hermantown Hawks remained unbeaten Monday as the Hawks won their fifth straight game to start the season. The Hawks defeated the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears Monday by a score of 3-1 ay Don Fitchner field in Hermantown.


Freshman Kole Zuidmulder was the winning pitcher for the Hawks as he threw 5 1/3 innings picking up the victory for Hermantown. Zuidmulder allowed only six hits while striking out four Golden Bear batters and gave up only three bases on balls.


The Hawks took advantage of six hits on the afternoon and 10 walks given up by the Golden Bears Tyler Larson as they pick up the two run win at home. Zuidmulder allowed only one earned run and all three Hermantown runs were earned as well.


Offensively Joe Muench had a hit, two stolen bases and a RBI for the Hawks. Neal Pionk added a run scored, a stolen base, and was 1-4 on the day. Kevin Folman also was 1-4 with two stolen bases and a RBI.


The Hawks with the win improve to 5-0 overall with the victory Monday and they will be in action again on Tuesday when they host the Hibbing Bluejackets in a sectional match-up in Hermantown.


The Golden Bears fall to 0-5 overall on the season and they will make a trip up north Tuesday afternoon as they will face the International Broncos at International Falls High School as they try for their first win of the season.
