Hawks Win Another Close Game To Reamin Undefeated

The Hermantown Hawks remained unbeaten on Friday as the Hawks came from behind to defeat the Superior Spartans by a score of 4-3, in this Lake Superior Conference contest Friday afternoon at Hermantown. The win showcases the Hawks ability to win the close games as they beat the Proctor Rails by the exact 4-3 margin just a week ago.


Hermantown trailed early in the contest as they fell behind by a score of 1-0 after one inning and 3-0 in the sixth. The Hawks picked up two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the gap and added one more in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3 to send it into extra innings.


It was Matt Lord who drove in the winning run Friday afternoon as the Hawks remain perfect on the season. Lane LeGarde was the winning pitcher Friday as he came in relief for Kevin Folman who pitched 5 2/3 of an inning for the victory.


Neil Pionk and Kevin Folman each had two hits for the Hawks in the conference win, Folman also had a double and Pionk scored two of the Hawks four runs. Pionk scored the game winning run on the Lord single in the eighth inning.


The Hawks move to 4-0 on the season and they will be back in action on Monday afternoon when they host Eveleth-Gilbert in a non-conference match-up. The Golden Bears are coming off a 4-3 loss to Mesabi East on Friday afternoon.
