Proctor Overcomes Deficit To Net 17-7 Win

PROCTOR — Proctor overcame a 4-0 deficit with seven runs in the second inning and cruised to a 17-7 win over Esko in a non-conference baseball game at Proctor. Esko was the home team. The game was moved to Proctor due to wet grounds at Esko.

Proctor’s Ryan McCarthy was three-for-four with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. McCarthy’s homer was his first of the season and eighth of his career, which ties him with two others for the Proctor High School record.


Ben Nelson helped the Rails cause with three singles and three RBIs. Jesse Scanlon and Cody Dolsen had two hits apiece for Proctor.

Winning pitcher Jack Nikko (1-0, 3.50 ERA) allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks in four innings. He had three strikeouts. Nelson pitched the final three innings for the save. Nelson allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a hit batsman. He had two strikeouts and no walks.

Esko’s Max Reinertsen picked up the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) on one hit and five walks in one and one-third innings. Esko’s pitchers combined for 10 walks.


Andrew Hendricks led the Eskomo attack, going three for four with a double and three runs scored. Reinertsen, Ryan Holte, and Tyler Miller had two hits each for Esko.

Proctor scored 17 runs on 14 hits, three errors, and 13 left on base.

Esko scored seven runs on 12 hits, six errors, and 10 left on base.

Proctor (2-1) travels to Two Harbors on Friday. Esko (1-1) hosts Floodwood on Thursday.
