Jacks Fall 5-2 To Aitkin

A sweep in doubles play helped lead the Aitkin Gobblers to a 5-2 victory in boys tennis over Cloquet-Esko-Carlton on Thursday afternoon in Aitkin.


The Lumberjacks managed to split in singles play thanks to wins by John Scheuer and Christian Pritchett at #2 and #4 doubles respectively. Scheuer won by 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 over Dan Klucas and Pritchett took a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Bryce Hanges. At #1 singles CEC’s Sean Kedrowski fell to Alex Anderson 6-1, 6-4 and at #3 Ryan Lind of CEC dropped a 6-2, 6-0 to Lyle Nyberg.


The Gobblers dominated doubles play starting at #1 where Jack Reeves and Eric Raushel downed CEC’s Ryan Willgohs and Robbie Sobczak 6-3, 6-0. At #2 the CEC team of Ben Tomhave and Joey Gotchnik dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Ryan Rosemore and Ryan Anderson. The final CEC loss of the day came at #3 doubles where Nick Tomhave and Lucas Tomhave lost 6-1, 6-4 to Adam Burke and Caris Calberg.


The Jacks will be back at it on Tuesday when the take on Duluth Denfeld at Duluth Central Courts.
