CEC Boys Open Tennis Season With A Win

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys tennis team notched a 4-3 win over the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears on Tuesday. The Jacks were the quasi home team because match, originally scheduled as a home match, was moved from Cloquet to Eveleth-Gilbert to take advantage of the indoor courts due to cold weather. The Jacks took 3-of-4 singles matches to secure the win.


Sean Kedrowski helped key the win by taking a win in a wild #1 singles match against E-G’s Colton Hennis. Kedrowski prevailed in a 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 match. In a match nearly as thrilling it was CEC’s John Scheuer winning over Nick Robillard at #2 singles by scores of; 6-3, 6-7, 10-7. To top of their wins in singles it was Christian Pritchett taking an equally crazy win over Alec Richter 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 at #4 singles. CEC’s lone loss in singles was at #3 where Ryan Lind dropped a 7-6, 6-4 decision to Derek Boese.


Robbie Sobczak and Ryan Willgohs helped to close out the win by winning at #2 doubles 3-6, 6-4, and 10-6. That victory gave the Jacks the victory. The CEC #1 doubles team of; Luke Heine and Joey Gotchnik dropped a 6-0 and 6-3 decision and the CEC #3 doubles team of; Ben Tomhave and Nick Tomhave lost a narrow decision to Evan Brinkman and Nile Schechinger by 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 scores.


CEC will be back in action on Thursday when the travel to Aitkin for a true road game against the Gobblers.
