Saints Softball Scores Amazing 49 Runs In Double-Header Victory

The St. Scholastica softball team combined to have 43 total hits in a double header against Crown College and the offensive firepower propelled the Saints to win both games by scores of 22-2 and 27-1 Tuesday night at Kenwood Field.

In game one, the Saints took advantage early and scored nine runs in the first followed by seven in the next inning and six in the third. Crown would tack on runs in the 4th and 5th inning and the final score would finish at 22-2 after five innings.

Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn. /Sacred Heart HS) was the winning pitcher for the Saints, striking out six and allowing only hit in three innings of work. Andrea Wick (New Prague, Minn. /New Prague HS) pitched the last two innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one batter.

The Saints were led offensively by Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn. /Armstrong HS) who had five hits, seven RBIs, and four runs. The Saints had four other players with multiple hits. Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis. /Menomonee Falls HS) had a home run and batted in five runners as well.

The second game featured much of the same with the Saints plating 15 runs in the second inning en route to a 27-1 victory.

Barb Malyuk (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS) was the winning pitcher in game two. In three innings of work she struck out three batters and allowed three hits and one run.

Wick started the game, but was relieved at the beginning of the third inning.

The Saints were led by Shauney Moen (St. Francis, Minn. /St. Francis HS) and Kowalczyk each going 4-5 with four hits. Roach and Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn. /Wayzata HS) each homered for the Saints in a game where the Saints connected to have 26 total hits. As a team, the Saints had 23 RBIs and committed only one error in both contests.

The Saints (12-8, 4-1 UMAC) will host Martin Luther College this Friday in a double-header with game scheduled to start at 3 pm local time. Tune into csssaints.com for updates from this game.
