The tentacles of former Northland Sports Online athletes spread across the country like the arms of an Octopus. Among those former athletes from the area seeing success was 2008 Cloquet High School graduate Becca Sorenson, who was a freshman last season at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.

As a freshman on the cross country and track team, Sorenson has shown early promise that she will be a strong force in both as she gains more experience in NCAA running circles.

Last fall, she led the MSU women’s cross country team by placing 22nd overall at the Big Sky Conference Meet. Sorenson also received Big Sky All-Academic Award status based on grades and performance in the conference throughout the season.

In track, Sorenson had a strong start to the indoor season and qualified for the Big Sky Indoor Conference Meet.
However, she then ran into a few minor injuries that slowed her progress for the remainder of the track season.

According to Becca’s father, Steve Sorenson, she has elected to stay in Bozeman for the summer to work and train with her teammates.

Sorenson has also represented Cloquet very strongly in the classroom where not only was she All-Big Sky Academically she also
achieved the Academic All-American Award.
