Esko Basketball Program Excels Off The Court

For the fourth consecutive season, the Esko girls basketball team has be named to the state all-academic team for the winter sports season 2011-2012. As well as the girls team being named all-academic; Esko’s Jackson Lindquist was named all-state academic on the boy’s side as well for the 2011-2012 season.


The Lady Eskomos finished with a grade point average of 3.63 in the Section 7AA teams that were named all-state. Aitkin achieved the highest grade point average in Section 7AA with a combined GPA of 3.714. Two Harbors was second with a GPA of 3.69 followed very closely by the Eskomos.


Ely and Cherry were named all-state in Class Single A schools, Grand Rapids and Hibbing were both selected in Section 7AAA as all state academic, and in Section 7AAAA it was Duluth East achieving this award.


Jackson Lindquist was one of two northeastern Minnesota players named all-state on the boy’s side. Lindquist, along with Andrew Laughlin of Duluth Denfeld were named to the 2011-2012 all-state academic team.


To be named to the boys all-state academic team players must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and greater as a sophomore, junior, and through the first half of their senior year. They also must be a starter on their team and never had any eligibility violations during their high school career.


The boy’s teams named all-academic in Section 7 were in Class A Cook County, in Class AA it was Eveleth-Gilbert, in Class AAA it was Duluth Denfeld, and in AAAA it was Cambridge-Isanti named to the all state academic teams. Perham finished with the state’s highest GPA this year.


Detroit Lakes finished with the state’s highest team total with a combined GPA of 3.888, while finishing a close second was Willmar with a GPA of 3.886, and it was Redwood Falls coming in third place overall with a combined grade point average of 3.866.


Northland Sports Online would like to again congratulate the Lady Eskomos on another fine accomplishment again this season; not only the success on the court, but for their work in the classroom as well. NSO would also like to congratulate Jackson Lindquist for his excellence on and off the court as well.
