Yellowjacket women’s soccer coach Melissa Nelmark has added her third recruit for the 2012-13 season, with the commitment of Breanna Tucker for this coming fall.

“We’re thrilled to have Breanna joining our soccer family. She is going to add even more depth, dedication
and passion to our goalkeeping lineup. Breanna will be a great fit for our program,” Nelmark said. “She’s intelligent, hard-working and has outstanding character and personality.”

Tucker, from Cloquet, Minn., played two seasons of varsity soccer for the Lumberjacks. In her senior season, her first as a goalkeeper, Tucker recorded 91 saves and had a 1.73 goals against average on her way to second-team all-conference honors.

“The fact that Breanna was able to make the all-conference team in her first year as a varsity goalkeeper is a testament to her commitment and enthusiasm,” Nelmark said. “She has come a long way in a short amount of time and we’re excited that she will continue her development here. We have no doubt that she’ll make an impact on and off the field.”

Tucker also played club soccer and her team won a state championship in 2006. Tucker was also chosen to represent the United States on a trip to Sweden as part of the Duluth Vaxjo Soccer Exchange, a program pitting players from Duluth against a team from Vaxjo, Sweden in the “Sister City Soccer Cup.”

An honor roll student at Cloquet High School, Tucker has been involved in many different activities. She is active on the Scott Anderson Leadership Forum, the Junior Executive Board, the Senior Executive Board, is a LINK crew leader, is the chairperson of the Senior Slideshow Committee was a member of the homecoming court and organized the Jordan Tucker Memorial Clinic, in honor of her brother. Tucker also participated in the “A Week on Varsity Soccer,” a soccer camp for young girls.

When asked about her decision to attend UW-Superior, Tucker said, “My brother played a big role in my decision because Joe Mooney had recruited him to be a goalkeeper for the Yellowjackets also, and that’s what sparked my interest in UW-Superior. The students, teammates and teachers I met while visiting there were so friendly. I loved the campus and I love the area.”

Tucker is undecided on a major field of study, but is looking at forensic psychology or allied health care.

“I loved the girls on the team and I’m really excited to work with Coach Nelmark,” Tucker added. “She knows the game better than most coaches and players I have seen and has a level head. I’m very excited to become a Yellowjacket soccer player.”
