Hawks Remain Hot With Win Over Proctor

The Hermantown Hawks, who were coming off a very impressive sectional win over Hibbing on Tuesday, night saw themselves again used stellar defense to shut down the Proctor Rails and come away with an 80-45 Conference victory Friday night.


The Rails were seeking to end a four game losing streak Friday night as they traveled to Hermantown, but it was not to be as the Hermantown defense again dominated as the Rails fell behind early and saw themselves trailing 40-17 at halftime.


The second half again started with the Hawks using their defense to control the game as Hermantown scored 40 points in the second half also and went on to the 35 point Lake Superior conference victory at home.


The Hawks dominated the stat pages of the scorebook by out-rebounding the Rails by a 30-21 margin for the night. Hermantown also came away with an amazing 21 steals on the night in the win at home. Hermantown shot 44% from the field and they hit four 3-pointers, while the Rails failed to connect from long range.


The Hawks were led Friday by Corey Anderson, who finished with 21 points on the night. Spencer Johnson added 17, Kole Zuidmulder finished with 10, Zach Goplin added 8 points including two 3-pointers. Kevin Folman hit for 6 points, Grant Borndahl and Lane Wargin each chipped in with 3, while the Hawks also had four players with two points on the night.


Proctor was paced by Anders Voss who finished with 20 points, Jordan Carey added 7, Charles Burns and Dakota Thorstenson, and Jacob White all had 4, Fredy Benish, Alex Greene, and Tyler Schubert all ended with 2 points for the Rails.


The Hawks improve to 16-8 on the season as they pick up their third straight win. They will have a huge sectional battle on Tuesday night when they will host the Denfeld Hunters.


Proctor falls to 8-15 on the season as they drop their fifth straight contest. The Rails will host Moose Lake-Willow River on Tuesday night.
