The Cloquet boys basketball team jumped out to a nice halftime lead only to see Duluth Marshall Battle back and tie the game and force overtime where Cloquet prevailed and came away with a three point win 56-53 in double overtime.

The first overtime was a scoreless affair as neither team played extremely well in the first overtime stanza. Both teams committed several turnovers during the four minute period. Cloquet managed only one field goal attempt in the first overtime.

Sean Ferrell connected on four free throws in the second overtime to help seal the victory for Cloquet. Dillon Johnson and Adam Laine also hit shots in overtime and Laine added a free throw off a three point play to pick up the home victory.

In the regular session the Lumberjacks jumped out to an early first half lead building the lead to as many as eight points. John Fox cut the lead to four points for Marshall with a little over five minutes to play in the first half. Cloquet then went on a 9-3 run to build up a 28-16 halftime lead.

Marshal and Cloquet battled in the second half with Marshall trying to cut into the Lumberjack lead here and there, but Cloquet managed to hold off the Hilltoppers by maintaining a 6-8 point lead for most of the second half.

Erik Miklausich cut the Cloquet lead down to two points with 2:23 remaining and after Fox forced a jump ball, Miklausich scored the tying basket just 16 seconds later. Laine then connected on two free throws to put Cloquet in front with a minute to play.

It was Miklausich again for Marshall, has he connected on the game tying bucket for the second time with under a minute to play. Cloquet held the held for one final shot and that missed the mark to force overtime and ultimately double overtime and a Jacks win.

With the win Tuesday night, the Lumberjacks improve to 8-15 on the season and they snap a five game losing streak. Cloquet will be back in action again on Monday when they host Two Harbors and again on Friday when the finish their season at home versus Hibbing.
