Bulldog Boys Win Second Straight With 59-54 Victory

The Carlton Bulldogs picked up their second win in a row Monday night as the Bulldogs defeated the East Central Eagles by a score of 59-54. The win also gives Carlton their sixth win of the season under first year head coach Adam Bailey; the most since the 2007-2008 season.


The Eagles jumped out in front in the first half as they led by two points at the half, 2-20. The Bulldogs staged a big second half comeback as Carlton outscored East Central by a score of 39-32 to come away with the five point win.


The Bulldogs were led by some hot outside shooting as Lane Empson hit five 3-pointers on the night. Zach Veno also connected on two long range bombs. The Bulldogs also took advantage of making 16 of 27 free throws on the night.


The Bulldogs were led by Empson, who finished with a game high 21 points, Erick Adams connected with 19 points, Kyle Gunderson finished with 8, Veno added 6 points and it was Dekota Frear who ended with 5 points for Carlton.


The Eagles were led by Roy Fletcher, who nailed down 16 points, Ben Swanson finished with 13, Bart Johnson added 11 points, Cory Sona ended with 5, and it was Danny Dronen who closed the East Central scoring with 2 points on the night.


With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 6-14 on the season. They also improve to 4-7 in sectional play. The Bulldogs will be back in action again Tuesday night as they host Two Harbors in their last regular season home game of the year.


The Eagles fall to 1-21 on the season as they lose their ninth straight game. East Central will be home Friday when they host the state’s top class AA team in Braham and then next Monday they host the Barnum Bombers.
