Esko Girls Rebound With a Huge 70-31 Win

The Esko Eskomos rebounded Monday night with a 70-31 win over the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears after dropping a contest to Crosby-Ironton on Saturday afternoon. The Eskomos lost on Saturday to the Rangers by a score 70-31.


The Eskomos and the Golden Bears played a fairly close first half on Monday as the Eskomos built up a half time lead of 29-20. The second half saw the Eskomos break away on offense and clamp down on defense as Esko outscored the Golden Bears 41-11 to pick up the 39 point victory.


Savanna Trapp, who was held to only 8 points in the loss on Saturday, rebounded Monday with 23 points to lead all scorers; she also finished with7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Senior Megan Reuer had another nice night for the Eskomos as she pulled in 9 rebounds.


Following Trapp’s 23 points were Marisa Shady and Brooke Schramm, who both finished with 12 points, Shady also recorded 5 steals, and Reuer also finished in double figures for the Eskomos as she scored 10 points in the Eskomos win.


The rest of the Eskomos scoring was: Ashley Bergerson who scored 4 points, Kailee Katt and Erika Shady both added 3 points for the Eskomos, and rounding out the scoring were Steph Miller and Kailee Kiminski both with 2 points.


The Golden Bears were led by Megan , who finished with 14 points; she also connected on three long range bombs in the loss. Katelyn Rice added 8 points, Emily Grummett finished with 5, and it was Shelby Thorenson closing the scoring with 4 points.


Esko is back in action of Thursday when they host the Cromwell Cardinals to close out their regular home season. On Saturday they will close out the regular season with a game against Duluth East at East High School. The Eskomos move to 22-2 on the season.


Eveleth-Gilbert falls to 9-16 on the season and they have lost their last nine games look to rebound on Friday when they will finish the regular season at home against the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in a non conference match-up.
