Rebels Win Third Straight

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels picked up their third win a row Saturday afternoon as the Rebels knocked off Pine City in a Section 7AA match-up in Willow River by a score of 70-49. The Rebels, with the win improve their section record to 6-3 on the season as they will have a tough sectional battle on Tuesday.

Rebels opened up the first half, taking control of the game as they jumped out to a 31-19 lead at halftime. The Rebels continued to play great ball in the second half as they outscored the Dragons 39-30 to make the final margin of victory at 21.

Offensively the Rebels had three players in double figures and as a team they finished with 43 rebounds and an outstanding 21 steals on the afternoon. Taylor Mattison led the Rebels with 14 rebounds and he also nailed down four steals and he topped that off with six blocked shots.

Rebels were led in scoring by Tony Adamczak who finished with a game high 21 points including four 3-pointers on the day. Mattison added 18, Caleb Koecher also finished in double figures with 10 points, John Bednar, Andy Olson, and Matt Mach all scored 3 points, and the Rebels also had six players finish with two points on the day.

The Dragons were led by Brickre Fischer who scored 19, Jordan Rarick added 11, Tyler Johnson scored 7, Nick Long Chipped in with 4, Josh Adams, Gabe Gonyea, and Kyle Webster all scored 2 points for Pine City in the loss.

The Rebels move to 14-8 on the season and will face section leading Braham on Tuesday night at Braham High School. Braham is also the number one ranked team in the state based on basketball polls statewide. Moose Lake-Willow River will also be in action again of Friday when they face Barnum in Willow River.

The Dragons lose their fifth straight game and they fall to 4-19 on the season. They are back in action again on Monday night when they host Foley; they are also home on Friday night when they will take on Aitkin in a sectional battle.
