Lady Rails Pick Up 50-41 Conference Win

The Proctor Rails picked up a conference win at home Monday night over Duluth Marshall as the Rails topped the Toppers 50-41. The Rails, who have now won three of their last six games, also picked up their second Lake Superior Conference victory Monday.


The Rails and the Toppers battled in the first half as the Rails held on to a three point 21-18 lead at halftime. The Rails widened their lead in the second half outscoring the Toppers 29-23 to come away with the nine point win.


Steph Torgeson and Micayla Westendorf led all scorers, each scoring 12 points in the Rails victory. Brianna Westendorf and Kyla Merrill each scored 6, Bridget Tessier added 5, Kyra Hart scored 4, Krista Mottonen chipped in with 3 and it was Lexie DeWall with 2.


The Hilltoppers were led by Maddie Olson who scored 7 points. Signe Bradfladt, Camille McKee, Mary Baumgartner, Aure Phillips, and Abby Bushey all finished with 6 points, and it was Laurel Eyer closing the Marshall scoring with 4 points.


The Rails improver to 5-16 on the season and they will be home Friday night as they host Hinckley-Finlayson in a non-conference match-up and again on Saturday night when they will host the Aitkin Gobblers.


The Lady Hilltoppers fall to 2-21 on the season and they are in action again on Friday night when the travel to International Falls to face the Broncos in a Section 7A contest. Monday’s loss also drops the Hilltoppers to 0-6 in conference play.
