For the second time in a couple of weeks the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team knocked off the Denfeld Hunters this time 4-2 in Cloquet.

The Jacks built a three goal lead after two periods and never appeared to be in too much trouble against a good Hunter squad.

Adam Hanson gave the Jacks a 1-0 lead at 12:34 of the first period with Drew Dincau and Kellin Lamirande adding the assists. Hanson was able to pull the goalie out of the net while hanging onto the puck for the layup goal. The Jacks held a one-goal edge after the opening stanza in a period that saw both teams put seven shots on net.

Beau Michaud put the Jacks up 2-0 on a nice goal with Westin Michaud assisting. Karson Kuhlman gave CEC a 3-0 lead at 15:40 of the second period with both Beau and Westin Michaud getting the assists and the Lumberjacks closed out the second period by leading by three goals.

Denfeld tried to get back into the game at 9:21 of the third period when Levi Talarico punched a goal past CEC netminder John Scheuer. The Jacks took just 13 seconds to respond to the goal by adding one of their own when Kaleb Kadelbach scored from behind the end line on what looked to be a centering pass that went off the goaltenders skate and into the net. Denfeld ended the scoring at 13:04 on a goal by Jordan Buetow, but by that point the game was in hand for CEC.

Thompson made 23 saves on 27 shots for Denfeld, while Scheuer finished with 25 saves on 27 shots for the Lumberjacks who improved to 16-6 overall and 5-1 in the Lake Superior Conference. The Lumberjacks still can finish first in the LSC with a win over Hermantown on Thursday.
