When the Cloquet Lumberjacks baseball team takes to the field in the spring, they will have a new head coach at the helm. Rick Norrgard has been hired as head varsity baseball coach.

Cloquet Activities Director Tom Lenarz believes Norrgard, a Cloquet alum and current resident will do a great job, stating. “Rick has shown tremendous commitment to the youth program here and should provide lots of energy to the program.”

Norrgard inherits a club who two years ago won the Section 7Aa title for the first time in 35 years and have made steady gains the past few years under coaches Steve Jezierski and Rick Stowell. “Obviously, turnover at the head position is difficult, but Rick Stowell left the program in very good shape from an organizational standpoint,” explained Lenarz. “We have a talented group of kids coming up and I think there are lots of reasons to be excited about the team this spring.”

Most recently Norrgard coached the Cloquet 13yr olds to a perfect 11-0 record en-route to capturing the Minnesota State Little League 13 year old title.

The Minnesota State Little League Tournament
was held for the first time ever at Braun Park in Cloquet, allowing Norrgard and company to celebrate the win on their home field.

The Jacks will open the regular season on April 5 against Henry Sibley at the Metrodome.
