Despite losing on the road in overtime to Duluth Marshall, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team showed resilience and heart in the 5-4 loss.

Just 4:12 into the game the Jacks gave up a shorthanded goal to Judd Peterson of the Hilltoppers and CEC fell behind 7:21 into the period after a goal by Matt Klassen. Before the opening period ended the Jacks had tied things at 2-2on back-to-back goals by Westin Michaud. Michaud’s first goal was scored at 7:45 and was set up by Karson Kuhlman and the second was scored at 14:40 and assisted by Beau Michaud.

Peterson gave the Hilltoppers the lead at 2:18 of the second period, but again CEC fought back when Kuhlman muscled in a goal just 12 seconds later with assists to Tanner Robideaux and Beau Michaud. However, again the Hilltoppers went ahead 4-3 at 6:32 on a Luke Pavelich goal from Klassen and that is how the second period ended.

Beau Michaud brought the Jacks back to yet another tie when he scored at 13:27 of the third period with Westin Michaud assisting and that is the goal that sent the game into overtime.

The game ended quickly in overtime however when Kris McKinzie followed up on a Ryan Gotalaere and Mike Damberg pass to give the Hilltoppers the 5-4 victory.

For the game John Scheuer notched a 16 save effort on 21 shots, while Caden Flaherty had 17 saves on 21 shots for Duluth Marshall.
