Saints Fall to St.Johns

DULUTH, Minn. – Two second half goals was able to push St. John’s over the St. Scholastica men’s soccer team in yesterday’s action at Kenny Harkins Field. The game sat at 0-0 at halftime, but two goals in less than five minutes in the second half was able to give St. John’s a 2-0 victory over CSS.

How it Happened
Early on, both teams went back and forth in an attempt to break the 0-0 tie. Strong goalkeeping play by both sides kept this game at 0-0.

Pushing on into the first half, St. Scholastica had a late attempt to give itself a 1-0 lead, but it would be for not, as the game sat at 0-0 at halftime.

St. John’s opened up the second half firing away, but Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) was making strong saves for the Saints, keeping the score at 0-0.

St. John’s broke through in the 61st minute, finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead over the Saints.

Just five minutes later, the Johnnies scored once again, extending its lead to 2-0 over St. Scholastica.

The Saints offense went to work, as shots by Keegan Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) and Alexander Estrada-Cortez (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) were shut down, as the score remained at 2-0.

With 10 minutes to play, Ramses Fuentes (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) and Tommy Zuzek (Lakeville, Minn./Farmington HS) took their chance at trying to crack the scoreboard, but the Johnnies defense stood tall, as the match ended in a 2-0 St. John’s victory.

The Saints (2-11-1, 0-7-1) will be back in action next on Saturday, where they will take on Augsburg in the final home match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
