Section 7AA track and field finals were held Saturday at UMD with several Cloquet Athletes vying for a trip to state.

Lumberjack senior Taylor Sautbine earned her second trip to the state tournament with a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Sautbine entered the finals seeded third with a 16.70 second performance in Wednesday’s prelims. Running into a five plus MPH wind, Sautbine was able to match her prelim time exactly with another 16.70 performance in the finalsw
Her two closest competitors dropped nearly a full second contending with the headwind.

Sautbine will be joined on her trip down south by Jes Vork, who qualified on Wednesday with a second place finish in the high jump. Vork narrowly missed qualifying for state in the 100-meter dash, finishing a close third.

Senior Brandon Perrault finished second in the 100m and won the 200 meter dash and will represent Hermantown at the state tournament.

The other big news of the day was Grand Rapids Sophomore Lindsey Mattson setting the Section 7AA record in the 400m dash. Mattson’s time of 56.64 seconds topped Kristi Buerkle of Forest Lake’s 2007 mark of 56.91 seconds.
