The Cloquet Lumberjacks were unable to overcome a slow start against Northwestern on Monday night and the Cloquet boys fell to the Tigers 58-52 in Maple despite 27 points from Adam Laine.

The Tigers zipped out to a 29-18 halftime lead as the Jacks struggled to find the hoop. However, that changed in the second half when Laine and his mates started finding more success as they outscored Northwestern 34-29 in the second half, but ended up falling just short of the win.

With the game played in Wisconsin it had a bit of a twist familiar to old timers. The game was an old fashioned four quarter match-up rather than the two halves of basketball that MSHSL went to several years ago.

Trent Moe also had a big night for the Jacks with 18 points, Dillon Johnson added five and Zach Peterson finished with a pair of points.

Leading Northwestern was Grant Peterson with 14, Dylan Jardine who had 13, both Nolan Graff and Justin Alexson added nine points, it was seven for Matt Hilna, Brayden Bartlett scored four points, and it was two points for Micah Olson.

The Cloquet boys will be back at it on Thursday with a huge Lake Superior Conference game against Hermantown at Cloquet Senior High.
