The Barnum Bombers split two games on Tuesday and are still alive in the Section 5A girl’s softball tournament. The Bombers faced the Maple Lake Irish in the battle of the two undefeated teams in the section tournament. Osakis took on Ogilvie in the game of the once beaten teams.

The Bombers faced Maple Lake in the first game Tuesday. Even though it was close in the early innings, it was the Irish who pulled away for an 11-3 win over Barnum. Katrina Newman was a bright spot offensively for Barnum as she hit a run home run that accounted for two of the three Bomber runs. Maple Lake moves on to the championship game on Thursday afternoon.

Barnum then faced Osakis in the second game Tuesday. Osakis defeated Ogilvie to advance to meet Barnum. Things were looking good early on for the Silverstreaks as they jumped out to a 7-4 lead. The Bombers however would not go quietly as they came back to win this game 11-7 and advance to meet Maple Lake again on Thursday.

The Bombers comeback was led again by Katrina Newman, who was 4-5 with another homerun and 5 RBIs. Breanne Mattson was also 3-5 in the Bomber victory. Newman was the winning pitcher, recording 8 strikeouts in the win.
