Jackson Lindquist reached a milestone on Thursday night; the senior guard who needed only two points to reach the 1000 point mark did it in style a mere :38 seconds into the game. Lindquist drained a 3-pointer that gave him 1001 points for his career and also gave the Eskomos a lead as they picked up their sixth straight win by a score of 70-54.

The first half saw both teams fighting back and forth with a total of nine lead changes taking place in the first half. With the Eskomos trailing 22-21, Casey Staniger nailed a 3-pointer which gave Esko a lead they never relinquished the rest of the game. Esko nailed a total of nine three pointers on the night and led at half time 33-27.

Lindquist was the game’s leading scorer with 28 points on the night including four 3-pointers and he was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Lindquist also finished with five rebounds and five assists on the night as the Eskomos pick up a huge section win at home over the defending Section 7AA champions.

“Jackson has perfect form for a shooter” Head Coach Michael Devney told Northland Sports Online. “He has great ball rotation and arc which makes him a great shooter.” Devney also added “it’s a great accomplishment; he just has a great work ethic plus he works hard on the defensive end where he normally guards the other team’s top player.”

Reaching the 1000 point plateau is the most notable of Lindquist’s accomplishments this season; but the numbers really help explain just how good of a pure shooter he really is. So far this season Lindquist is averaging 26 points per game, shooting better than 48% on 3-pointers and 61% total from the field. He is also averaging 92% from the line, missing only two free throws all season. Lindquist’s game isn’t just about shooting however, he is averaging nearly 5 assists per contest in Esko’s team oriented take what the defense gives you style of offense.

With Esko leading by three at 44-41 the Eskomos then went on a 26-13 run to close out
what was
billed as an even match-up coming in and pick up the win at home. The win moves Esko to 6-1 on the season and they will be in action again on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Northland Sports Online Wood City Classic in Cloquet. Esko will face Blake on Tuesday and East Central on Wednesday.

Jared Harms followed Lindquist in the scoring column with 16 points and it was Kory Deadrick who chipped in with 10 on the night. Jordan Lindholm led the Bluedevils with 20 points and his teammate Patrick Jarvi added 10 points in the loss. Virginia falls to 5-2 on the season and they will play in the Princeton Holiday Tournament next week.
