Cromwell Boys Pick Up 56-48 Win Over Wrenshall

The Cromwell Cardinals found themselves trailing the Wrenshall Wrens 25-20 at halftime in a Polar League battle at Cromwell high school Monday and it would be a strong second half led by Jake Ramberg as the Cardinals knock off the Wrens by a final score of 56-48.


The Cardinals, who opened the season last week with a loss to Barnum, rebounded as they gain their first victory of the season. The Bombers had defeated the Cardinals last Friday by a score of 87-45 at Barnum.


The Cardinals outscored the Wrens in the second half by a 36-23 margin as they even their record at 1-1 and they are also 1-1 in the Polar League Conference standings. The Wrens have lost both of their first two games this season as they fall to 0-2 on the season and are 0-2 in conference play.


Ramberg finished with 20 points Monday night to lead all scorers. Austin Johnson finished with 12 points for the Cardinals, Jared Hutar and Alex Hakamaki both chipped in with 10 points and it was Josh Oliver rounded out the Cromwell scoring with 4 points.


The Wrens were led by Pat Gustafson who finished with 19 points including five three-pointers on the night. Derek Duncan chipped in with 9, Matt O’Connor added 8, Mitch Frank scored 6 points, Pete Granholm, Jared Kittle, and Trent Olson all finished with 2 points each and it was Jack Dolter ending with 1 point in the Wrenshall loss.


The Cardinals will seek to make it two wins in a row when they host Moose Lake-Willow River on Friday night at Cromwell High School. The Wrens are looking to rebound on Thursday when they open their 2011-2012 home season against South Ridge.
