Dylan Samberg and Ryan Sandelin (open-net) also scored goals for the Hawks, who captured their third straight Hilltoppers Holiday Classic title.

Bruce Plante

“We’ve won 13, maybe 14, straight against Marshall, I don’t know,” Hawks coach Bruce Plante said during a media scrum following the game.

Hermantown defeated Bemidji 4-0 and Delano 4-3 to reach the final, and out-shot tourney opponents 155-47. The Hawks have won eight straight.
“Our team defense and defensemen are as good as anybody’s, I think,” said Plante. “Even against high-quality teams, we’ve been pretty good at not giving up real good shots. Even with three sophomores back there, and still learning the varsity game.”
