CEC Tennis Splits With Duluth Schools

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton routed Duluth Denfeld 6-1 in girls tennis on Friday afternoon, and then dropped a tight decision to Duluth East 4-3 later in the day.

Against Denfeld the Jacks swept all of the doubles matches including Alyssa Acheson and Reilly Kedrowski at #1 when they defeated Naomi Robinson and Olivia Kniziger 6-1, 6-2. That was followed by a win at # doubles from Steph Campbell and Breanne Baker over Ashley Parrish and Jenny Carlenberg 6-2, 6-1 at a win at #3 doubles by Katrina Smith and Jade Alvillar who downed Madria Lehto and Layla McDonal 6-1, 6-7, 10-4.

In singles Victoria Marinho of CEC beat Peggy Schueller 6-1, 6-0 and at #2 singles CEC’s Dana Hartman won 6-3, 6-1 over Anna Fry. Denfeld’s lone win of the day came at #3 singles when Tiff Klemmack beat Lora Chalich 6-1, 6-2, but the Jacks bounced back at #4 singles when Katelyn Litke beat Katie Postal 6-0, 6-0.

Against Duluth East the Jacks got big wins by Marinho at #1 singles and by Hartman at #2 singles. Marinho won her match 6-2, 6-4 over Caroline Skinner and Hartman beat Grace Heyer 6-0, 6-3. Micheala House and Chalich of CEC lost at #3 and #4 singles to East’s Maeve Maron and Serena Wimers.

Acheson and Kedrowski fell at #1 doubles to the East team of Johanna Saari and Taylor Armstrong, while Campbell and Lizz Jezierski dropped their #2 doubles match to AnnaGrace Norr and Kendra Berry. The Jacks picked up their lone doubles win from Baker and Smith at the #3 position when they beat Ingrid Holstrom and Lakoya Hampton 6-3, 6-3.
