Press Release

As promised, the management group of the Amsoil Speedway in Superior, WI has met with and listened to several concerns that have arisen amongst the Pure Stock drivers that race in Superior. After having a meeting with several driver representatives to listen to concerns, the Lakehead Racing Association Board of Directors met on Sunday afternoon to address the concerns.

The outcome of the meeting was very positive and several changes were implemented immediately. Amsoil Speedway Race Director Chris Stepan said “All along we have been more than willing to listen to the concerns of the Pure Stock drivers, just as I do with any driver in any class. We know that the drivers in the Pure Stock class have had a few concerns over the professionalism and level of respect given by the tech personnel and they also have had questions about fair and uniform teching, which we have now addressed.”

The board has come up with the following solutions to make life better for all involved: 1) The winner of the Pure Stock class will pull a number (1-5) as he or she crosses the scale after the feature event each night and the car that finished in whatever position is pulled will be the car that is teched. Teching can and may consist of whatever is deemed necessary that night by the tech officials, but the perception that some drivers are not getting teched while others are will end because it will be a very clear cut procedure as to who gets teched each night and 2) Clint Larson, who was volunteering as the Pure Stock tech inspector, has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

Stepan also said “This last week was a challenge for both the management and the drivers, but as I assured the drivers last week, changes would be made and I believe that we have made great strides toward making racing fun for the Pure Stocks in Superior again.”
