Duluth Padres Fall To Superior 5-0

DULUTH — Ryan Myhre threw a four-hit shutout as the Superior Lakers completed a perfect 14-0 Upper 13 League season with a 5-0 win over the Duluth Padres at Bulldog Park.

Myhre retired the first 13 batters he faced before Keith Gunderson lined a single to center field with one out in the fifth inning. Myhre had 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Kyle Peterson and Chris Musser had two hits each, and Orry Engebretsen had three stolen bases for Superior.

Superior went ahead 2-0 in the fourth inning on RBI singles by Peterson and Joe Copas. The Lakers scored two more runs in the seventh on a passed ball and a double steal. Musser added an RBI single in the eighth to put the score at 5-0.

Losing pitcher Anthony Bush (2-7, 2.87 ERA) allowed two earned runs in seven innings. He allowed six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Bob Eastman had two hits for Duluth.

Duluth finishes the Upper 13 League with a 5-9 record and falls to 12-17 overall. The Padres have two non-league games remaining. They travel to Cloquet’s Ed Mettner Memorial Field on Wed. to play the Duluth Xpress at 6:00 p.m., and will host the Hibbing Miners on Thurs. at Bulldog Park at 5:30 p.m.

Superior is idle until the Wisconsin Baseball Association Playoffs. The first round will be played at four sites on Aug. 12, 13, and 14. The WBA State Tournament will be at Coon Valley, Wis., on Aug. 19, 20, and 21.
