June 22

The largest recruiting class in the history of Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College football will be welcomed in the fall when 54 players hit the field for the Thunder. This year’s class will be a mix of local talent as well as players from across the country.

Among some of the local names joining the Thunder will be a trio of players off the state championship team from Cromwell, a couple from Moose Lake-Willow River’s playoff team of a year ago and a large contingent of players out of the Lake Superior Conference.

Mike Hedin, Greg Purcell and Pat Dahl will head the group from the 2010 9-Man state champion Cromwell Cardinals, while Cody Schmid and Jon Larson headline a pair of linemen from Moose Lake-Willow River.

Nick Harms, a defensive lineman from Cloquet, will also join the Thunder as will Jess Lonetto of Esko. Proctor’s Tyler Haedrick will add depth at running back and a couple of Barnum player’s; Josh Hogan and Andrew Youngren will also be important to the team next fall.

The local high school with the most players coming in to the Thunder fold is Superior with a total of five players joining this year’s team. Mark Murray, Eric Van Puymbrouck, Cameron Stanley, Ethan Taylor and Erik Olson will all be wearing the orange and black next season.

Chaise Jokinen, perhaps more well-known for hockey but who is also a gifted quarterback, will be making the transition from Carlton to FDLTCC as will James Feltus of AlBrook, Tony Klaas of Duluth Central, Aaron Bevington of Central and Floodwood’s Dustin Kasbolm.

The Thunder also have three players coming from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan including two who are currently competing in this Saturday’s Yooper Bowl at the Superior Dome on the campus of Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

Next season will mark the second season of head coach Keith Turner at the helm of the Thunder.
