Bulldogs Win Consolation Championship

The Carlton Bulldogs traveled to Fridley to participate in the three day Calvin Christian Holiday tournament. The Bulldogs would win the Consolation Championship, dropping their first game and winning the next two to take 5th place.

The Bulldogs took on Lake Park-Audubon, the eventual Champions, in the first round falling to them in overtime 71-66. The Bulldogs led 30-25 at halftime, but then got outscored 35-30 in the 2nd half. Jackson Mickle hit a three pointer as time expired to send the Bulldogs into overtime, but it wouldn’t be enough as Lake Park-Audubon outscored them 11-6 in overtime. Waylon Lekander led the Bulldogs with 18 points, followed by Sam Macor with 14 and Tyler Ojibway with 11.

In the Consolation bracket, the Bulldogs would be matched up with Liberty Classical Academy. The Bulldogs led 31-26 at the half, but used some tough defense to outscore the Lions 25-15 in the second half to secure the 56-41 victory. The Bulldogs used a balanced attack in the victory, with 11 players scoring in the game. They were led by Sam Macor and Tyler Ojibway who each notched 10 points.

In the Consolation Championship, the Bulldogs battled with the Learning for Leadership Mustangs. The Bulldogs led 37-32 at the break, but used a good defensive effort in the second half to double up the Mustangs 42-21 to secure the 5th place title. The Bulldogs used another balanced attack with 9 players getting in the scoring column, led by Matt Hey with a team high 18 points. Sam Macor notched a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Efren Moralez-Cruz also hit double digits with 10 points.

The Bulldogs are now 4-7 on the season and will be back in action on January 8th when they battle cross town rivals, the Wrenshall Wrens (0-8) for the Little Brown Jug. The Bulldogs beat Wrenshall 81-61 in the first game of the season.
