Cole Koepke scored three goals and tallied five points overall as the Hawks won the Hilltopper Holiday Classic over Cloquet-Esko-Carlton by a score of 8-3.

Although Hermantown had the majority of shots (47-25) and scoring chances in the game, the Lumberjacks hung around with the Hawks, ranked No. 2 in the Class 1A coaches’ poll, for the first two periods.

The two teams traded goals throughout the first half of the game, but Hermantown (10-1-1) maintained a lead of at least one goal after Koepke and Matt Valure gave Hermantown a 2-1 lead in the opening period, Dylan Johnson scored the lone Lumberjack goal.

Koepke’s late goal in the second period gave Hermantown a two goal 5-3 advantage after two periods of play.

C-E-C’s Casey Holshouser had 39 saves for the Lumberjacks, while Hawks goaltender Luke Olson stopped 22 of 25 shots.

The final period was all Hermantown, as they overpowered the Lumberjacks (8-6) and tacked on 3 more goals to secure the win.
