Duluth Padres Fall In Double-Header Action

DULUTH – The Ashland C&S Design Protractors won two Upper 13 League baseball games against the Duluth Padres Sunday at Bulldog Park. Both games were nine innings.

Game One:

Ashland C&S Design 5, Duluth 1

Winning pitcher Erik Jokinen allowed one run on eight hits, zero walks, and one hit batsman in a complete game effort. He had eight strikeouts.

C.J. Smith was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Ryan Johnson had two hits for Ashland.

Bob Eastman, Matt Chruscielski, Bob Baxton, and Nick Moran had two hits apiece for Duluth.

Losing pitcher Chris Vendela struck out 16 batters, breaking his own Padres club record. He held the previous club record of 15 strikeouts, set in his previous start, a 4-2 win against the Ashland Merchants on May 15, 2011. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and one hit batsman in a complete game effort.


Game Two:

Ashland C&S Design 6, Duluth 5

Winning pitcher C. J. Smith pitched seven and one-third innings in relief of Steve Umlor, who was replaced due to an injury in the second inning. Umlor retired all five batters he faced. Smith allowed one earned run on six hits and six walks. He had six strikeouts.

Ben Hatinger had three hits for Ashland. Smith and Scott Moreland had two hits each.

Matt Chruscielski had two doubles and three RBIs, and Noah Hobbs had two hits for Duluth.

Losing pitcher Anthony Bush allowed three earned runs on 11 hits and one walk in a complete game effort. He had four strikeouts.
