Padres Fall To Superior Lakers By An 8-1 Score

SUPERIOR — The Superior Lakers defeated the Duluth Padres 8-1 in an Upper 13 League baseball game at Superior’s Morrie Arnovich Memorial Park.

Superior scored three runs in the first inning as their first six batters walked. The Lakers scored four runs in the third inning on a wild pitch and a three-run double by Brian Burman. They plated another run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Orry Engebretsen.

Engebretsen led Superior with three hits.

Winning pitcher Josh Foreman allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks in seven innings. He had eight strikeouts. Michael Stocke pitched two scoreless innings in relief, with four strikeouts.

Duluth manufactured a run in the third inning when Kevin Olson reached on an error, gained second base on a walk to Devin Delich, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Corey Pavlich, and scored on a wild pitch.

Jake Lambert (0-1, 7.87 ERA) went the distance for Duluth, allowing seven earned runs on six hits, 13 walks, and two hit batsmen in eight innings. He had nine strikeouts.

Duluth (4-1 overall, 1-1 league), which had been idle since May 15 due to weather-related postponements, suffered its first loss of the season. The Padres are back in action Sunday in an Upper 13 League doubleheader against the Ashland C&S Design Protractors at Bulldog Park. The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Superior, (2-0 overall, 2-0 league) travels to Oulu on Sunday for an Upper 13 League game.
