Hermantown Boys And Girls Win Section 7AA Golf Titles

The Hermantown Hawks handled the field in both the boys and girls Section 7AA Golf Championship held at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. The boys won with a low combined score of 630, while the girls won with a combined low score of 721.

Taylor Sundbom of the Hawks won individual boys honors with a low score of 149 for the two rounds followed by Glenn Walls of International Falls with a 155. Rounding out the top qualifiers were; Olaf Waikky of Virginia, Tom Cox of Hermantown, Trent Sundbom of Hermantown, Jeff Shermoen of International Falls, Derek Riley from the Falls, Jon Rue of Hibbing-Chisholm, Josh Becks of Hermantown and Andrew Krasawy of Hermantown as well as Zach Edgerton of Hermantown.

Other finishers included Jack McFarlane of Cloquet, Krasawy of Hermantown and Grant Douglas from ML-WR all tied for 13th place with a two day total of 168. Freshman Marc Peterson was Esko-Carlton’s top finisher in 20th place with a two day total of 175.

On the girls side the medalist was Callie Wilson of Hermantown who shot a 169 followed by Olivia Tusa, also of Hermantown just a shot back. Other top qualifiers for state included; Emma Kishel of Virginia, Mandi Salo of Hermantown, Malinda Porter of International Falls, Jane Sloan from Greenway, Kelly Blair of International Falls, Emily Albert from Marshall, Molly Kolquist of Hermantown, Natailie Stauber of Hermantown and Mary Neumann of Hermantown.

Other notable finishers on the girls side were Samantha Schaumberg from ML-WR in 12th place with a tow day total of 198 after shooting identical 99’s in each day of competition. Sarah Juntunen was the top Esko-Carlton golfer, finishing in 23 rd place with a 213. Arica Sheff was the top Cloquet girl with a 25th place 215.
