Despite the light show to the south of the Proctor Speedway, the dreaded “R” word did not occur. A good crowd was on hand as the speedway was able to get in its second show of the young season in three tries. The car count also took an upward jump with an even 100 cars on hand including 19 Midwest Modifieds, a like number of Late Models and Modifieds, 17 Super Stocks and 26 Pure Stocks.

Qualifying heats were won by Darrell Nelson and Kyle Peterlin in the WISSOTA Late Models, Skeeter Estey and Lance Solem in the Midwest Modifieds, Gavin Paul and Kelly Estey in the WISSOTA Modifieds, Sam Skalsky and Donnie Lofdahl in the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Josh Loucks, Mark Korte and Austin Blom in the Pure Stock heats. Dale Soumala topped the field in the Pure Stock B Feature.

First up in the feature races was the 20 lap feature for the Midwest Modifieds. Pole sitter Neil Balduc grabbed the early lead over Dan Kingsley followed by Scott Herrick, Deven Van House and Danny Vang in the top five. Skeeter Estey advanced a couple of positions to sixth as George Dalbeck took fifth. The first of five caution flags flew when Travis Krumrie went off turn three.

At the green flag Balduc held the lead as Herrick and Kingsley battled side by side for second. Herrick took the spot and slipped under Balduc to take the point while Estey shot into second place. The second caution flag appeared when Ross Siiter and Ricky Davis tangled in turn two. With nine laps in, Herrick maintained the lead with Estey all over him as Balduc and Dalbeck went side by side for third and ninth starting Tommy Turcotte appeared in fifth. Estey took over the point with Herrick second trying to hold off Dalbeck while Balduc began to fade back. Vang took over fifth as the third caution flag flew when Jeff Lien Jr. slid off the first turn.

With five laps remaining, Estey led as Dalbeck took over second and Herrick and Vang went wheel to wheel for third. As the white flag was about to appear, Balduc spun in turn in turn four. The restart was single file and Dalbeck got a great start driving side by side for the lead but Brian Youderin spun in turn four. Estey held off Dalbeck on the final restart for the win to complete the sweep. Vang, Herrick and Turcotte were top five finishers.

The WISSOTA Super Stock feature had a difficult time getting in that elusive first lap. At the original start, Zach Wohlers and Mike Trombley took a ride over the top of turn three. Wohlers went first and was sent to the rear. At the green flag Kevin Salin took the lead ahead of Al Rapp, Nick Oreskovich, Kevin Burdick, Scott Lawrence, Sam Skalsky and Donnie Lofdahl all in a swarm. Burdick popped out of the mass into the lead but a Trombley spin in turn four brought the pack to a halt. The restart saw Burdick inside Salin to the lead but another caution flag flew for a wad of cars in the fourth turn that included Tristan LaBarge, Pat Heikkinen, Jay Kuras and Justin Iverson.

At the green Salin was back in front as it was still the same lap still 19 to go. They were still unable to get that elusive first lap in as, on this try, Iverson and Tom Nicholl tangled in turn three. Officials ruled the next try at the lap would be single file and that worked. Salin led Burdick ahead of Oreskovich, Lawrence and Lofdahl who lost fifth to Skalsky. Lawrence was charging in the high groove and went wheel to wheel with Salin. Lawrence shot off the high side of turn two and went out front as the half way point was reached. The order was Lawrence, Salin and Burdick in the top three as Skalsky, Oreskovich and Lifdahl skirmished for fourth.

The fifth and final caution flag flew when Heikkinen turned around and stalled in turn four. Lawrence led the rest of the way, Burdick took second from Salin and Oreskovich and Skalsky rounded out the top five. Lofdahl, LaBarge, Mike Bellefeuille, Wohlers and Kuras battled for sixth and Wohlers won out. Lofdahl, Bellefeuille, LaBarge and Nicholl rounded out the top ten. The win for Lawrence was his second of the weekend.

As the clock struck eight, the big iron rolled out onto the track 19 strong for the 25 lap WISSOTA Late Model feature. Father Terry Lillo held the pole next to son Aaron. At the start Terry Lillo shot to the lead, Kyle Peterlin launched from the outside of row two into second and Darrell Nelson drove to third past Aaron Lillo. Nelson got past Peterlin and Lillo to take the point and moved out to a huge lead. Darin Meierotto raced his way from the inside of row four to the third spot, Aaron Lillo ran fourth and Harry Hanson was fifth.

With no caution flags, the midpoint was quickly reached. The running order in the top ten was Nelson, Peterlin, Meierotto, A. Lillo, Hanson, Tim McMann, Caley Emerson, Scott Duval, T. Lillo and Todd Gehl.

Nelson began lapping cars and had a big lead on Peterlin who in turn, had a huge lead on Meierotto. With 20 laps complete, the first caution flag in two weeks of Late Model feature competition at the track, flew when Jay Kintner’s #24j stalled on pit road just off turn one. The caution closed the field up to Nelson’s rear bumper. At the restart Nelson led Peterlin but Meierotto made bold move in the high groove going for the lead but couldn’t hold it. He slipped off the first turn and by the time he regained control the entire field had passed. Nelson maintained his lead over Peterlin to take the win and complete the sweep. Hanson, Duval and A. Lillo completed the top five. Don Copp who started 18th in the 19 car field, finished in sixth place.

The 20 lap main event for the WISSOTA Modifieds had a terrible time getting going. A series of incidents occurred every time the green flag appeared. When the initial lap was finally completed, Jeff Wood led the way with Darrell Nelson second as Jody Bellefeuille and Ryan Aho battled for third. Bellefeuille grabbed third, Kelly Estey raced into fourth as Aho slipped back to fifth. A few lengths back of the front group Ricky Roche, Nick Lavato, Alan Hartel and Jad Carlson battled for position. Bellefeuille moved to the top shelf and got by Estey into second as Estey got by Nelson into third.

The caution flag appeared when Rick Niemi went off turn two. With 16 laps to go the restart went nowhere as Cory Sersha, Jayme Lautigar and Carlson tangled in turn four. At the green flag Bellefeuille looked to the outside and took the lead from Wood and Estey took the same route to try and take second away from Wood. Lavato was charging forward to battle with Aho and Estey as Bellefeuille was rim riding in the lead. Nelson faded back a bit and ran sixth as the top five were Bellefeuille, Estey, Wood, Aho and Lavato. Estey appeared faster in the bottom groove but couldn’t quite pull off the pass until he was able to put a slide job on Bellefeuille for the lead. Nelson rebounded to run third as the white flag flew. The final running order in the top ten saw Estey, Bellefeuille, Nelson, Aho and Wood in the top five. Lavato, Hartel, Bob Broking Roche and Gavell finished in the top ten.

The night finished up with the 15 lap Pure Stock feature. At the start Austin Blom and Dustin Follett battled for the lead with Blom taking the position. Challenging Follett for second was Easten Nelson and Mark Korte. The red flag flew when Pete Ciurleo went off turn one and rolled his 52c ending on his roof. Ciurleo was not injured and the restart was with 14 laps yet to be run.

Blom jump out to the lead on the restart and Nelson got by Follett into second followed by Josh Loucks and Mike Blevins who were battling for third. The caution flag appeared for a crash in turn four involving Joe Pajtash, Kevin Getchell and Jason Calhoun. At the green Blom was out front of the scramble for second that included Nelson, Follett, Blevins, Loucks and Korte all in the mix followed by Dale Soumala and Matt Deragon.

At the half way point Blom led Nelson, Blevins, Follett, and Korte in the lead five while the second pack was Soumala, Deragon, Loucks, Corey Lonetto and Josh Danielson. Blevins slipped off the pace as Blom still led but another red flag flew when Rita Anderson hit the fourth turn wall and rolled her car. She was not injured but the car showed damage including a missing left rear wheel. The restart saw Blom and Nelson going at it for the win with Korte third and Follett fourth a bit further back just ahead of Soumala who finished fifth.
