CEC Blanks Duluth Marshall

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks hosted the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers on Monday evening in 7AA action. The Lumberjacks moved to 2-0 on the young season after blanking the Hilltoppers, 7-0.

The Lumberjacks gained their advantage in the 1st period when Kaden Matteen and Jedd Anich assisted Reid Davidson at the 16 minute mark to go up 1-0.

In the 2nd half, the Lumberjacks opened up a scoring frenzy. Branden Matteen and Joe Backus were credited with assists on a goal by Ryan Nelson at the 8 minute spot of the 2nd quarter, to move the Lumberjacks up 2-0. Ryan Bourgeault made it 3-0, hitting the back of the net just 5 minutes later. Jack Kuhlman would then score on a power play for the Lumberjacks, finding the net 14 minutes into the 2nd, making it a 4-0 advantage. The Lumberjacks wouldn’t stop there however, scoring two more goals within a minute of each other, with Trevor Inman scoring a power play goal at the 15 minute spot and Jacob Johnson scoring at the 16 minute spot, making it 6-0 heading into the 3rd period.

In the 3rd, Nelson scored his second goal of the game, this time unassisted to seal the game as a 7-0 victory for the Jacks.

Eric Newman stopped 16 shots for the Lumberjacks in the shutout victory, while Duluth Marshall’s goalie, Makaio Goods, stopped 28 in the loss.

The Lumberjacks (2-0), will look to remain perfect as they host Bloomington Jefferson (1-0) on November 27th, with the puck dropping at 7:30pm. The Hilltoppers dropped to 0-1 with the loss and will look to bounce back on November 27th when they host perennial powerhouse, Benilde-St. Margaret’s (0-0) at 5:00pm.
