Cloquet-Esko-Carlton opened the Section 7AA boys tennis playoffs on Monday against Duluth Central. The Jacks exited the post season tournament with a gut wrenching 4-3 loss to the Trojans.

The teams split the four games in singles play, but the Trojans went 2-1 in doubles play to gain the win.

In singles play the Trojans got a win at #1 from Chad Bolen who defeated CEC’s Sean Kedrowski 6-1, 6-2. However, the Jacks rebounded at #2 singles when John Scheuer picked up a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over Cory Bolen. Again the Trojans gathered a win at #3 singles when Kyle Stupca downed Tanner Webster of CEC 6-2, 7-6, but again CEC responded at #4 singles when Ryan Lind slipped by Brendan Johnson 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

The Trojans notched wins at #1 from Caleb Reder and Aaron Stinson over Ryan Kedrowski and Luke Heine and at #2 from Ethan Meyers and Mike Stukel when they beat the CEC team of Josiah Sickler and Cameron Halfrisch. The lone CEC win in doubles came at #3 from Christian Pritchett and Ryan Willgohs in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jordan Rock and Matt Skurich.

While the Trojans will move on to the next round of the team playoffs the Lumberjacks will have to settle for hopes of singles and doubles teams advancing in the individual playoffs that start later this week.
