The Hermantown Hawks are going back to the girls state volleyball tournament for the first time since 1995 as the Hawks were crowned the section 7AA champions after defeating the Greenway Raiders 3-1 Saturday night at Duluth Denfeld High School.

After dropping the first set 18-25, the top seeded Hawks zoned in, taking the next three 25-20, 25-20, and 25-21.

Hermantown junior Jordan Thomas paced her team, getting 12 kills, 23 set assists, and 12 digs on the night.

Also putting in clutch performances for the Hawks was Hailey Menzel with 12 kills along with 14 digs, and Ellie Gamradt who had 4 blocks and 8 kills.

For the Greenway Raiders, Hannah Goggleye had 14 kills, and Erin Gustason, who had 39 set assists in the tough losing effort.

Hermantown will face an opponent TBD Thursday in St.Paul at the Excel Energy Center.
