Hermantown Golf Comes Away With Two Big Wins

The Hermantown Boys Golf team came away with two big wins on the week as the Hawks first won one of the four Lake Superior Conference Meets in Cloquet on Wednesday, and then it was a win at the twenty-four team, thirty-six hole Northern Invitational that was held both at the Quarry and at Giants Ridge in Biwabik on Friday and Saturday.


Wednesday the Hawks took the Lake Superior Conference event by shooting a team score of 149 giving them a two meet total of 304. Duluth Central is second at 326, Cloquet is in third at 329, Ashland currently is in fourth with a total of 332, and Superior is in the top five teams with a 347. Duluth Marshall and Proctor are sixth and seventh overall with two meets remaining.


Jerry Henderson and Trent Sundbloom both tied for the low round, as they both finished with a 35. Josh Becks from Hermantown finished third with a 36, and fourth place was a tie between Rob Kraft of Superior and Tom Cox of Hermantown who both shot a 37. Cloquet’s top finisher Wednesday was Eric Fryc with a 40 and Proctor’s top finisher was Tyler Matetich with a 43.


On Friday and Saturday Hermantown’s Andrew Krasaway set a meet record by shooting a 70, besting the previous record low of 71 held by two golfers. His 70 lead the way for a two day total of 145 which bests that record as well by two strokes. The previous record was 147.


Krasaway, along with teammates Josh Becks and Taylor Sundbom, who both finished in the top five helped to give the team title to the Hawks. The Hawks finished with a total of 621, while International Falls was second with a team total of 636, and Mahtomedi was third with 662. Finishing in 18th place were the Cloquet Lumberjacks, Esko-Carlton finished 22nd and it was Wrenshall finishing in 24th place overall.
