Hermantown Blue Wins Cloquet Invite

CLOQUET- Hermantown had two teams entered into the 2011 Cloquet High School Invite on Monday and it was an impressive showing as the Hermantown Hawks Blue Team entry captured first place. Hermantown also took individual honors with the top three rounds of the day all posted by members of the Hermantown Hawks.

Hermantown Blue finished with a team total for 302 to capture the Invitational Championship Monday. Cloquet was runner-up with a team total of 341, third place was Esko-Carlton with a total of 356, Ashland finished fourth with 361, and Moose Lake-Willow River finished in fifth with a total of 363.

Duluth East was sixth, followed by Duluth Central-Denfeld seventh, Proctor and Hermantown Gold tied for eighth, Superior finished in tenth place, Duluth Marshall and Greenway-Nashwauk Keewatin finished in eleventh and twelfth in the invitational.

Tom Cox of the Hermantown Blue team was first as he was the medalist shooting a round of 73, his teammates Andrew Krasaway and Josh Becks both shot 75 to finish tied at second place. Zach Edgerton of Hermantown Gold was 4th with a 78, Taylor Sundbloom of Hermantown Blue was 5th with a 79.

The rest of the top twelve was Own Stauber of Hermantown with a 80, Andrew Castle and James Sturgal tied at 7th with an 81, Eric Fryc finished in 9th place with a round of 83, Kory Deadrick and Taylor Sundbloom finished tied for 10th with an 84, and it was a three-way tie for 12th place from Jack McFarlane of Cloquet, Eric Cooper from Duluth East, and Jerry Henderson from Ashland. All three golfers shot a round of 85.

Other qualifying scores from local teams were Marc Peterson 87, Nick Neve 88 and Ty Ericson a 97 all from Esko. Moose Lake-Willow River featured Gabe Douglas 89, Stephan Gassert 90, Grant Douglas 91, and Nathaniel Koeck with a 93. Karl Palmquist and Evan Sheff both shot a 92 for Cloquet.
