ML-WR Boys Win Sap Run Meet

Barnum High School played host to the Senior High Sap Run track meet on Thursday, which featured a total of eight different schools attending. Moose Lake-Willow River was the big winner on the Boys side, scoring 116 points, outpacing second place Barnum High School and Aitkin High School who tied for second with 61 points each. Cook County finished first in the girls portion with Cromwell finishing in second, just a half of a point better than third place ML-WR.


Allie Cahoon finished strong for the Cardinals, capturing first place in the 100 meter dash and second in the 800 meter dash while teammate Samantha Suhonen won the discus. Barnum showed their overall depth in the field events with Lissa Warpula winning the triple jump, Mercedes Adams winning the shot put, and Brienan Olson placing third in the discus.


ML-WR dominated the girls relays by winning three of four including the 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800 meter relays.


The ML-WR boys were helped to their first place finish by Holden Olson, who won the 400 meter dash and Cody Coughlin winning the 3200 meter run. The boys also matched the girls feat by winning the same 4×200, 4×400, and 4×800 relays.


ML-WR picked up yet more points on the field side with Zach Cisar winning the high jump and triple jump and Nathan Vargas winning the shot put.


Andrew Youngren was the lone first place finisher for the Bombers, placing first in the discus but Barnum used a total of five second place finishes to accumulate the 61 points needed for a second place tie.
