A total of 10 boys and 10 girls teams competed in the Section 7AA True Team track meet in Chisago Lakes on Tuesday. Mora won the boys portion of the event and Grand Rapids came away with the victory on the girls side. Locally Hermantown came away with the best team results; that being a fifth place in girls and a sixth place in boys.


True team events showcase each team’s depth by awarding points all the way down to the 20th place finisher. Grand Rapids winning point score in the girls portion was 529 points. Hermantown tallied 401 for fifth place, Cloquet 275 for seventh, and Proctor 232 points for tenth place.


Duluth Central’s Paige Stratioti turned in the top individual performance of the meet, winning the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash, clocking a blistering 56.40 electronic time in the 400 meter dash. Rachael Hoium of Hermantown nearly matched the triple win feat winning the 100 hurdles, triple jump, and finishing second to Hailey Smith of Hibbing in the high jump. Both Smith and Hoium cleared the 5’-2” mark, but the victory went to Smith on jumps. Hailey Peterson of Cloquet was a double winner, finishing first in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.


The Hermantown 4×800 team helped out the cause finishing second. Proctors top finisher was Bridget Tesser, who finished in a three way tie for third in the high jump.


Mora boys winning total was 445 points. Hermantown’s sixth place finish totaled 344, Cloquet scored 309 for ninth place and Proctor finished in tenth with 290 points.


Individual boys finishers included a pair of first place finishers from Cloquet with Jared Anderson winning the 400 meter dash and Sean Ferrell placing first in the 110 hurdles. Corey Anderson of Hermantown won both the high jump and triple jump while his teammate Jeremy Peterson took top honors in the discus. Proctor’s Matt Welch finished first in the 3200 meter run while the Proctor boys 4×800 team also finished first.


Second place finishers included Jake Lesar from Hermantown in the shot put and Proctor’s Tyler Haedrich in the 800 meter run.
