Lady Rebels Hold Off Proctor For A 9-8 Win

WILLOW RIVER- In a high scoring game Monday afternoon in Willow River it was the Lady Rebels holding off the Proctor Rails, winning by a final score of 9-8 in this sectional battle in Willow River.


The Rails scored fist in the top of the second inning when Katie Leonard scored when Karley Krueger singled in the second inning. The Rebels responded in the bottom of the third inning when with two outs, Maddy Adamczak singled and then scored on a double from Kaitlyn Greene. Greene scored when Andrea Youngberg hit a two run home run to give the Rebels a 3-1 edge after three innings.


The Rails scored two runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game, Aubrey Knox and Leonard scored as the Rails had four hits in the inning. Proctor jumped ahead in the top of the fifth inning scoring three runs as Jen Asanovich, Knox and Leonard all scored to put the Rails ahead by a score of 6-3.


Moose Lake-Willow River answered right back when Sam Johnson scored off a Greene sacrifice, Adamczak and Youngberg scored the second and third runs of the inning with the RBI’s going to Jodi Michaleski and Christen Peterson. With the game tied a 6-6, the Rebels scored their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead for good.


Johnson, Adamczak, and Youngberg all scored as the Rebels sent eight batters to the plate in the sixth inning and the Rebels led 9-6 entering the top of the seventh. The Rails didn’t go quietly though as they scored two runs and had the tying run on base as the Rebels closed out the game for the 9-8 win at home.


Maddy Adamczak and Samantha Johnson each had three hits for the Rebels, Kaitlyn Greene and Andrea Youngberg both finished with two runs batted in. Samantha Johnson was the winning pitcher for the Rebels. The Rails were led by Leonard, who finished with three hits and scored three runs, Krueger, Steph Torgerson, and Kaylan Mottonen all had two runs batted in for the Rails.


Moose Lake-Willow River improves to 5-4 on the season and they host the Polar Bears of Floodwood on Tuesday. The Rails fall to 2-4 overall on the season and they face the Hermantown Hawks on Tuesday afternoon in Hermantown.
