Cloquet Boys, Hermantown Girls Win Proctor Invite

The Hermantown Girls and the Cloquet Boys captured the titles in a boys and girls track meet Tuesday afternoon at Proctor. The Hermantown Hawks finished with 89 ½ points to finish first in the girls meet, Cloquet was second with 51 points, and Proctor finished with 45 ½ points.


The lady Hawks finished with eight first place finishes in the meet, while Proctor had six and Cloquet had four. The Lumberjacks battled though finishing second a total of eight times to garner the most second place points in the girls meet.


Winners on the girls side included in the relays, Hermantown who won the 4×400, 4×800 meter and the 4×100 meter race. Cloquet won the 4×200 meter relay. In the hurdles it was Rachel Hoium of Hermantown capturing first in the 100 meter hurdles, and Micayla Westendorf who captured the 300 meter relay race for Proctor.


In the longer distance races it was Megan Sundstrom of Proctor winning the 800 meters, Brianna Westendorf of Proctor winning the 1600 meter race, and Halee Peterson of Cloquet won the 3200 meter race. Megan Sundstrom also won the 100 meters, Lyla Abukhodair from Hermantown won the 200 meters, and Emily Rikkola captured the 400 meter race for the Lumberjacks.


The field events saw Jessica Schlichting of Hermantown winning the Shot Put, Felicia Hraban from Cloquet finishing first in the discus, Shayna Prouty won the Pole Vault for Proctor, Jessica Wasspotten of Hermantown won the Long Jump, Hoium won her second event as the triple jump champion, and it was Bridget Tesser taking first in the High Jump for Proctor.


Cloquet finished first on the boys side with 65 ½ points, Hermantown was close behind with 63 and Proctor finished with 57 ½. The Lumberjacks won three relay events as they took fist in the 4×100, 4×400, and the 4×800 meter relays. Hermantown edged Proctor in the 4×200 meter relay. Corey Anderson of Hermantown won the 110 meter hurdles and Proctors Aaron Benson finished first in the 300 meter hurdles.


Two of the three long distance races were dominated by Romeo Benish of Proctor as he took fists in the 1600 meters, and the 3200 meter race. Cloquet’s Jared Anderson won the 800 meter race. In the sprints Proctors Chris Carlson won the 100 and the 200 meter races. Cloquet’s Anderson won his second event taking a first in the 400 meter race.


Corey Anderson added two more first place finishes as her took home wins in the triple jump and the High Jump for Hermantown. Jake Lesar of Hermantown won the shot put and the Hawks Jeremy Peterson won the discus. Cloquet added two firsts in the field events as Brad Butcher took home a fist in the Long Jump and Carter Halfrisch won the Pole Vault.
