Smith Leads Cards over Panthers

Zion Smith threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Cromwell Cardinals picked up a 21-6 win over the South Ridge Panthers Friday night in Culver.

Smith connected on two first quarter touchdown passes, the first to Alex  Striowski from 27 yards out and the second to Eli Warpula from 30 yards which gave the Cardinals a 14 – 0 lead after two extra points by Carlos Lemoine.

Zach Johnson cut the lead down to 8 after a two yard touchdown run as the Cardinals led 14-6 at the half.

Smith made it 21-6 on the first drive of the second half as he scored from 11 yards out on the touchdown run and the extra point made it the 15 point lead.

There was no more scoring as the game finished with Cromwell improving to 3-1 on the season.

The Cardinals out gained South Ridge 322 yards to 235 as the Panthers were coming off a 46 point outburst a week ago against Floodwood.

In a very balanced contest possession wise which actually saw the Panthers who had the ball almost two minutes more then Cromwell but were unable to score more then the 6 points.

Smith finished with 89 yards rushing on the night to go with his 66 yards passing. Warpula add 82 yards on the ground and caught two passes.

Zach Johnson finished with 116 yards passing and also had 53 yards rushing in the loss for the Panthers who fall to 2-2 on the season.
