The AlBrook-Cotton Falcons boys basketball season continues on as the Falcons defeated the Silver Bay Mariners in overtime 69-68 to advance to the section quarterfinals of Section 7A. The Falcons, the number five seed, defeated the four seeded Mariners and move on to quarterfinal action on Saturday.

The Falcons came out in the first half and both teams played up and down the floor, but it was AlBrook-Cotton holding a two point 32-30 lead at halftime. The Falcons would shoot extremely well from beyond the three point line as they hit nine 3-pointers in the win.

Earlier this season it was Silver Bay winning 61-52 in a matchup back in January . The Falcons were seeking some revenge and they would get that Thursday night when they knock off the Mariners and advance to face the number one seed, Lakeview Christian Academy.

The Falcons were led in scoring by Bryce Karppinen, who finished with 22 points on Thursday night. Dan Wood added 20 including four 3-pointers. Robby McQuade added 13, Ryan Smith finished with 6, Dominic Janke added 4, and it was Aaron Smith and Kory Saver each with 2 points in the Falcon victory.

The Mariners were led by Kyle Blood and Henry Mitchell who both finished with 21 points on the night for Silver Bay. Ryan Blood added 15, Luke Thun chipped in with 8 points, and it was Baruch Fischer who rounded out the Mariners scoring with 3 points on the night.

The Falcons improve to 12-12 on the season and they will face the Lions in the late game Saturday night at Duluth East High School. The Falcons will have to look to contain the state’s leading scorer in Anders Broman who is averaging almost 40 points per game.

The Silver bay Mariners see their season come to an end Thursday night in Esko, the Mariners finish the season with an 11-12 overall record. The 11 wins for the Mariners were the most victories that Silver Bay has had since 2006.
