Barnum Boys Close Out the Regular Season With a Win

The Barnum Bombers closed out their regular season at home Friday night with a win over the AlBrook-Cotton Falcons. The Falcons jumped out to an early first half lead, but Justin Newman led the Bombers back in the second half as the Bombers come away with a 13 point win on senior night in Barnum.


The Falcons played very well early in the first half and led by five points 36-31 at the break, but a Barnum Bomber run in the second half quickly gave the Bombers the edge and Justin Newman came up with 20 points to lead all scorers and secure a Barnum win as they move into the Section 5A playoffs.


“Justin played so well tonight” Head Coach Richard Newman told Northland Sports Online. “He had one of his best games ever, he played very well.” Newman added “There were a lot of kids that stepped up and made some big plays when we needed them.” Newman went on to say “Hogan and Justin moved the ball so well for us we found the open man every time”


Newman finished the game with 20 points; Newman also finished with 7 assists, and came up big with 5 steals in the contest. Josh Hogan followed Newman’s 20 points with 15 for himself, Hogan also pulled down 11 rebounds in the Bomber victory Friday night.


The rest of the Bomber scoring included Jacob Naslund who finished with 10 points on the night. Andrew Youngren added 7, Luke Chalberg had another good night with 6 points, Danny Warpula finished with 4 points, and it was Bobby Minkkinen rounding out the Bombers scoring with 2 points.


The Falcons were led by Dan Wood and Bryce Karppinen who each had 15 points in the loss for AlBrook. Wood also nailed four 3-pointers, and Karppinen added one. Kory Saver added 11 points, including nine which came off of his three 3-pointers, and closing the Falcons scoring was Robby McQuade with 10 points in the Falcons loss.


The Bombers close out their regular season with an overall record of 20-6, and will open Section 5A playoff basketball at home on Thursday when they host the Cromwell Cardinals in a second round contest. The Falcons close out the season with a record of 11-12 and they will take on Silver Bay in the second round of the Section 7A tournament on Thursday night as Esko High School.
