Rebels Roll over Rails

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels pounded out 9 hits Monday afternoon as the Rebels scored 7 runs off those nine hits and picked up a 7-3 section victory over the Rails in Proctor.

The Rebels struck first Monday as they scored three runs in the top of the second inning as the big blow came from Jamie Benzie and Josie Benzie. Jamie singled in Laura Walker who doubled to start the inning, and later it was Josie who doubled in Jamie Benzie and Nicole Newham.

The Rebels made if 4-0 in the fourth when Suzy Grutkowski scored on a triple from Ally Bode, Grutkowski reached on a error with two outs in the inning.

The Rails cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning, Krista Mottonen who reached on a fielders choice and Skylar Gunderson who walked, scored on a double from Hannah Johnson.

The Rails made it a one run game at 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Megan Cornelison scored on a RBI single from Gunderson.

One of the biggest highlights from the game when Mottonen robbed Nicole Newham of a sure single in the sixth inning as a smash hit off the bat of Newham deflected of the glove of Mottonen at shortstop and as she scrambled for the ball, from he knees she fired a bullet to first base for the put out and robbing Newham of a sure base hit.

Heading to the seventh with a one run lead the Rebels added three more runs as Grutkowski singled to start the inning, she scored on a RBI single from Jessica Paul, Ally bode who reached on an error scored the second run of the inning on a fielders choice from Morgan Pracher, and Paul scored the final run of the inning on a sac fly from Merrissa Mikrot.

Ally Bode who finished with 13 strike outs struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to earn her 10th win of the season.

The rebels improve to 10-4 overall this season and they face Cook County Tuesday afternoon in Willow River, while the Rails fall to 4-6 and they take on Duluth Denfeld Thursday in Proctor.
