Cloquet Tops Pine City in Tennis

The Cloquet Lumberjacks traveled to take on the Pine City Dragons on Tuesday night in boys tennis. The Lumberjacks would take home the victory, winning 5 matches to 2.

The Lumberjacks would have a clean sweep in the singles match ups. Ryan Willgohs kicked the evening off, topping Brandt Berube in 2 sets, 6-1 and 6-0. Christian Pritchett would follow, defeating Aaron Brown in 2 sets, both by the score of 6-1. Anders Pertler would keep it going for the Jack, topping Zach Broz 6-0 and 6-1 and Daniel Stevens would complete the singles sweep, beating Beau Steele 6-2 and 6-0.

In doubles action, the Jacks would struggle. They would start off with Josh Keith and Tommy Matuszak topping Luke Steele and John Blake in 3 sets, dropping the first one 6-3 but grabbing the next two 6-2 and 10-7. In the other two doubles match ups, Dylan Clarke and Luke Lamirande would fall to Pine City’s James Pixley and Andrew Clementson 6-2 in both sets and Cloquet’s Deke Vereeckan and Cal Pertler dropped the match to Jared Kolek and Jonah Bergstrom 6-1 and 6-0.

The Lumberjacks will take on Duluth East on April 20th.
